Lian Bell
Lian Bell is a multidisciplinary artist, who also supports other artists by designing acts of community-making. She brings together groups of artists and arts workers, online and off, to foster solidarity and community across geography and discipline. With a background in scenography, cultural project management, and social activism, Lian has worked over the past 25+ years with some of the most significant arts organisations and contemporary performance makers in Ireland and has received numerous awards. Since being accredited as a coach by Relational Dynamics 1st (UK), she has worked with over 50 independent artists to date to help them gain clarity in what they want in their practice, and then map a pathway towards it.
As a creative collaborator Lian is most interested in formally experimental performance and works that are devised and/or site specific. When working solo she returns to the intrinsic lapses of documentation, the vagaries of imagined and remembered space, and the companionable, subjective, and ultra-ephemeral nature of walks and conversations. She was Campaign Director of #WakingTheFeminists, the 2015-16 grassroots campaign that changed how theatre is made in Ireland. Whether making material-based work or shaping intangible encounters, all aspects of Lian’s practice overlap aesthetically and ethically.
