Helen Meany.
With a background in publishing and journalism, I have worked in the arts and culture field for three decades as a writer, commissioning editor, critic, consultant and curator. Having previously worked with the Irish Times, Irish Theatre Magazine and the Arts Council – as Curator of the Critical Voices programme, later as Literature Advisor – I am currently self-employed. My work combines consulting, coaching, writing, with programming and producing an annual festival, ClassicsNow, which I founded in 2019.
Increasingly, my interests lie in supporting individuals and organisations to navigate change and work together more creatively and effectively, through on-going professional development. My experience on boards of arts organisations – Dublin Dance Festival, Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art, Liz Roche Company and now Luail: Ireland’s National Dance Company – has deepened my commitment to supporting leaders of cultural organisations to thrive and grow. Underpinning this is my Master’s degree in Cultural Leadership from City, University of London and Cass Business School (2009-11).
I have been coaching individuals and facilitating groups since I completed a Diploma in Coaching, 2016-17, accredited by the International Coaching Federation, and I continue to deepen my coaching practice through on-going professional courses. I am one of four coaches working with artists of all disciplines through Wicklow Arts Office, since 2020.
I am committed to the reflective practice of coaching as an invaluable way of supporting artists, arts professionals and leaders of arts organisations.
